New Developments at Staphyt’s Plant Care Laboratory

To address strategic challenges, the Plant Care Laboratory is expanding its range of services and adding a new pathosystem to its portfolio: Cercospora leaf spot of sugar beet.

Sugar beet is a strategic crop in Europe, yet its productivity is heavily impacted by foliar diseases. Among these, Cercospora leaf spot caused by Cercospora beticola, is a major threat to yield and sugar content.

Following several months of in-house development by our R&D team, the Plant Care Laboratory is now able to offer a comprehensive range of tests to support your various projects related to this topic.

🧫 In vitro tests: Direct screening of the efficacy of different types of plant protection products (synthetic- and bio-fungicides) on fungal mycelial growth.

🌿 In planta tests: Screening of the efficacy and mode of action of plant protection products on whole plants under controlled conditions. Product application in a spray cabin, artificial inoculation, and incubation in growth chambers.

🧬 Molecular biology characterization: Genetic identification of strains, population monitoring, and targeted detection of resistance mutations, particularly in the Cytb and Cyp51 genes.

By combining phenotypic approaches with genetic characterization, the Plant Care Laboratory provides robust data to help secure the positioning and development of your future crop protection solutions.
