Residue studies

Multi-site studies for all types of crops

In the context of the risk assessment studies for consumers, environment and operators, requested for the approval of plant protection products, Staphyt guarantees the performance of multi-site studies. Our implementations extend from the North and South regulatory zones of the European Union to Morocco and to all types of cultures.
Our study directors, managers and technicians are in permanent contact, thus satisfying the application of the principles of GLP inherent in multilocal studies.

Benefit of our expertise and means to succeed your residue tests:

  • A large network of field test sites
  • technical specialists
  • Tailor-made service
  • A fleet of refrigerated trucks (<-18°C) dedicated to the transport of your specimens

These studies measure the level of crop residues treated at harvest (HS) or at different sampling points (DCS) to observe their decline curve. Our teams conduct these trials on all crop types in accordance with good agricultural practice.
The general requirements are based on Test Guidance OECD 509.

These studies aim to quantify the Magnitude of Residue (drenching, fumigation) carried out in stored foods (silo, fridge, controlled atmosphere).

These studies aim to quantify the residue of compound on crop leaves for farmers safety, its decline curve and to assess the DT 50. The general requirements are based on regulations 283/2013 and 284/2013, regulation 1107/2009 – reference to the US guidelines of EPA OPPTS 875.2100 and document EFSA (17.10.2014); in addition to document EFSA 2014, 12(10):3874.
Our teams can also conduct TTR (Turf Transferrable Residues) studies.

The purpose of these studies is to generate quantified data and elaborate the risk assessment of human exposure in a treatment area. They encompass people working in the field (operator/worker) or around the field (bystander/resident). Various routes of exposure (inhalation and dermal in different areas) are studied.
The general requirements are based on OECD No. 9 with reference to the US guidelines of EPA OPPTS 875.1300 and OPPTS 875.2500.

These studies allow to study the behaviour of the product in soil and provide the necessary data for the calculation of the DegT50.
These tests cover a variety of representative soils. They should be performed until 90% of the active ingredients and/or relevant metabolites have been dissipated. If the 90% dissipation time is longer than one year and the theoretical calculations do not exclude the risk, soil accumulation studies should be considered.
General requirements are based on OECD Series on Testing & Assessment No. 232 / Series on Pesticides No. 82 and OPPTS 835.6100.

The objective of these studies is to determine the amount of pesticide residues that can accumulate via soil absorption in crop rotation. These studies are carried out in accordance with good agricultural practice. The data obtained can be used to establish crop rotation restrictions.
Regulation UE 1107/2009 ( 283/2013) defines the data requirements to be provided: metabolism studies and quantitative residue studies on crop rotation can be requested. These studies are required only as long as there is a risk related to the persistence of the active substance or its metabolites in the soil. In the event that significant residue levels (> 0.01 mg/kg) are found in a laboratory study (metabolism study), a field study is required to estimate in situ the predicted residue level.

To respond to a growing demand from our clients related to new environmental requirements of the European directives, Staphyt has for several years developed a department specialising in beekeeping experimentation to carry out various types of studies with the domestic bee (Apis mellifera), in open field or in insect-proof tunnels. Staphyt is also able to carry out residue studies on bee hive matrices (pollen, nectar, honey, wax, bee bread, flowers and forage bees) according to document SANTE/11956/2016 rev. 9.

These studies are performed to evaluate the drift of product particles in a spray or in a seed sowing with seed treatment (or tubers).
