Proving the Efficacy of Biocontrol on Wheat Septoria

Demonstrating the field performance of biocontrol products can be challenging. That is why at Staphyt, we are constantly refining our methodologies to provide the most reliable trial conditions for our partners.

In 2025, we began investigating the key agronomic factors that make it easier to demonstrate biocontrol efficacy against Septoria leaf spot in wheat. Our goal? To provide our technical teams with the ultimate blueprint for selecting the most optimal trial plots.

📈 The 2026 Evolution: Building on the lessons learned alongside our pioneer partner clients, we refined our approach this year by varying critical factors like sowing density and nitrogen fertilisation.

Our latest trial area covered several thousand square metres, sown with a moderately susceptible wheat variety. This specific choice encouraged the natural development of the disease without allowing it to become overly severe.

🏆 The Results: A resounding success! The disease reached significant, measurable levels on the top three leaf layers, the perfect threshold to validate our results. Now, all eyes are on the upcoming harvest, which will be the final key factor in our data analysis.

Thank you to Stéphane BATON and Arnaud Descamps for their dedication in monitoring this innovative tool, and to both our returning pioneer clients and the new partners who joined us for this 2026 campaign!
