Webinar overview

The European commission’s “Chemical Strategy for Sustainability Towards a Toxic-Free Environment” adopted in 2020 highlighted the need to strengthen the legal framework of the EU CLP regulation and to enhance the controls with regards to endocrine disruptors and environmentally toxic, persistent, mobile & bioaccumulative substances.
In response the commission released a legislative proposal which will amend EU CLP. The amendment of the regulation will introduce new hazard classes and labelling for Endocrine Disruptors for both the health and the environment.
Each hazard class will be further split into two categories and new generic concentration limits triggering classification of the mixture will be introduced. In addition, the draft legislation introduces new hazard classes to cover the following: Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic (PBT), Very Persistent, Very Bioacumulative (vPvB), Persistent, Mobile and Toxic (PMT) and Very Persistent, Very mobile (vPvM). The draft legislation lays down specific criteria to allow a substance to be classified according to the above four hazard classes and mixtures will be classified as such if it contains any substances carrying these four classifications above 0.1%.
This regulatory evolution will have to be directly applied in Northern Ireland (EU regulation) and may be implemented as such under the GB CLP regulation, considering the links between EU and GB regulations for chemical hazards management.

The intention of the webinar is to summarise the change to the regulation, its impact and to discuss any questions that arise.
