Staphyt conducts GLP trials and residue studies on bee hive matrices

June 24, 2024

To respond to a growing demand from our clients related to new environmental requirements of the European directives, Staphyt has for several years developed a department specialising in beekeeping experimentation to carry out various types of studies with the domestic bee (Apis mellifera), in insect-proof tunnels.

Staphyt has its own dedicated team to manage your projects: the BeeTeam.

Legend: for trials under insect proof tunnels, we sow melliferous plants, in this case phacelia.

Staphyt is also able to carry out residue studies on bee hive matrices (pollen, nectar, honey, wax, bee bread, flowers and forage bees) according to document SANTE/11956/2016 rev. 9.

These GLP trials are conducted within multi-site studies in the EU regulatory zones and several Staphyt GLP field stations in Southern and Northern Europe have the capacity to carry out these bee trials.

SEU: Spain, Southern France, Italy

NEU: Northern France, Germany, Austria, Poland

Legend: Phacelia produces purple pollen, which the bees store in the honeycombs.

Further qualitative and quantitative PLUS points:

  • Accurate pre-tests on the crop if necessary in order to check any phytotoxicity and to secure the crop’s flowering during the actual GLP trial;
  • Capability to harvest several bee products in addition to honey such as flowers, pollen and nectar obtained via centrifugation;
  • More than 40 honey trials were successfully allocated in 2024 making Staphyt one of the best partners in the EU for this type of study.

Legend: We harvest the honey once the bees have capped it: in other words, when the honey no longer contains water and the bees have closed the honeycombs.
