OECD 237/239 Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) Larval Toxicity Test, Single and Repeated Exposure
Evaluating honey bee brood provides a complete risk assessment scheme for comprehensively measuring product toxicity on pollinators and the environment.
The methods aims at a determination of a No Observed Effect Concentration/Dose (NOEC/NOED) and if data allows, the EC50/ED50 (Effect concentration/dose 50%) on day 7 (for OECD 237) or 22 (for OECD 239) following a single/repeated exposure of larvae to a test chemical. These test guidelines on larvae bees should be seen as a lower tier test in the context of an overall assessment scheme for pollinators.
The parameters studied are the following:
🔹 Mortality from day 3 to day 7 (for OECD 237)/8 (for OECD 239) and on day 15, with EC50/ED50 values determined.
🔹 Emergence rate at day 22 : NOEC/NOED and/or ECx/EDx for adult emergence.
